G4S FM provide a total facilities management service to 6 schools across Leicester. They manage a continual rolling programme of planned, reactive and capital projects. A report had previously been commissioned by G4S to determine whether the ‘as built’ fire penetration systems within the schools comply with the G4S fire strategy. This report highlighted significant passive fire breeches across the school estate.
The G4S internal project manager left the business during the project. Callidus were tasked with undertaking the project management role to ensure the project kept momentum and was completed within client timescales.

It was crucial that project knowledge was gained quickly as the project was already being implemented. Callidus spent 2 days visiting each site and meeting all stakeholders. We took the project brief and ensured contractors were working within these parameters and re-issued a project programme that suited the client as opposed to the contractor.
We also issued an up to date, accurate project status showing detail with clear benchmarks. Until Callidus was appointed there wasn’t a continuous reporting mechanism put in place to accurately track the project delivery across the 6 sites. We also had to stop a contractor who was undertaking works outside of the project scope.
Our collaborative approach to consultancy, along with a clear and professional communication strategy, allowed us to quickly integrate with the ‘live’ project team.
There were also challenges of working within live school buildings and pressure from media interest in the safety of the children given the noted defects. The risk was always low but media hype was a potential problem.
Callidus ensured clear communication throughout and maintained strict milestones to guarantee the project was delivered within the defined timescales.
