Competent Person Service
La Redoute is a leading online French fashion retailer. The company needed a ‘competent person’ for health and safety assistance in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
They did not have an in-house health and safety professional and as such the company decided to engage Callidus Health & Safety to provide this expertise to them.
Upon initial appointment as the competent person for La Redoute, Callidus arranged and chaired a meeting with members of the HR, Facilities Management and Legal departments to discuss the health and safety strategy for the year ahead. The meeting identified a number of key areas where additional assistance from Callidus was required, specifically within fire safety and the management of safety arrangements associated with the company’s annual ‘fun day’ which was planned for July 2015.
In addition to providing assistance with these key matters, Callidus continued to guide La Redoute with ongoing health and safety strategy by chairing regular meetings and providing technical guidance on specific health and safety queries which were raised by La Redoute employees.
Not only did Callidus ensure La Redoute were complying with health and safety legislation, we were also able to perform additional services to improve performance.
This included carrying out a fire risk assessments with an associated action plan strategy for each of their offices, developing and delivery of a bespoke fire safety training course including Evac chair training for their fire marshals and incident controllers, and Callidus provided expert guidance in La Redoute’s fire and emergency evacuation plan at each site.
La Redoute has a dedicated health and safety professional available to them at a fraction of the cost of a full-time member of staff.
