Client Requirement

ASDA Stores Ltd have an extensive annual programme to refurbish, remodel and extend existing stores, and build new stores nationwide. These projects included extensive asbestos removal works, major demolition projects, and working with external parties on developer shell fit out projects.

To achieve this annual programme, ASDA works with framework design teams and contractors, using specific design models for each project type. Their requirements for CDM Services were to support the ASDA Construction Health and Safety Manager by providing safety leadership on projects within the Wal-Mart 6 Pillars of Compliance. Callidus were appointed to supply CDM services on a two year contract in July 2013.

Our Solution

Our ASDA team has an enthusiastic and autonomous approach to design risk management on all projects. Working in collaboration with the various design teams, Callidus identified and mitigated key risks faced with project delivery, including typical construction risks as well as the impact of construction work upon ASDA colleagues and members of the public.

For each project we prepared comprehensive pre-construction information and developed a Hazard Elimination and Management List (HEML) to focus on key challenges. These were shared with the project teams, with the HEML updated throughout the project and any residual hazards presented within the Health and Safety File.
